Mt. Visočica is home to a restaurant that carries its name and offers a perfectly balanced feeling of being “at the end of the world” without the need for seven-league boots. This is because you are close enough to the cities of Sarajevo and Visoko to get to Visočica relatively quickly, without having their relative proximity disturb the impression of being merged with wild but accessible nature. The name “restaurant” in the description is used somewhat modestly here, because this facility can be easily seen as a lobby leading to fantastic adventures across the mountains of Bjelašnica and Visočica. They surely include the bike path in Sinanovići (the oldest village on Mt. Bjelašnica), the possibility of spending the night under the mountain sky and harvesting mushrooms and blueberries in Mječkova strana and Ledine in the morning, or searching for medicinal herbs in the Jelenača field, near which there is a source of equally healthy water rich in iron.
If you are interested in archeology, there is a nearby nature park with pyramidal formations whose origins are still being investigated and attracts visitors from all over the world. All of these attractions will be easier to digest with the help of a top-notch gastronomic offer which, in addition to favoring local flavors, also profits from the altitude that gives it a special character.
If you order cream, cheese, stew or meat roasted under the bell, you will feel it in every bite that the host family Aljović produces up to 80% of the ingredients on their own. On departure, you can also try homemade rakia and you better make some space in the trunk for regular and sour milk, cheese and fruits and vegetables you can buy from the hosts.
